 His passion for helping families learn and grow is not limited to working within his own community, as Crawford personally has participated in more than 24 missions trips since 1985, and has played a key role in encouraging exponential growth in lay-led missions trips and partnerships at Westside in the past 18 years. He is also a partner in the Amazon Vision Ministry program that has linked US and Brazil-based families and lay leaders to facilitate medical care, spiritual growth, and education, since 2002.
As a ministerial leader, Crawford has served as a trustee of the Baptist College of Florida, and as President of the Florida State Board of Missions. Additionally, he has served as a trustee of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, and on various committees for the Florida Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention.
Dr. Crawford’s first book, “In Celebration of Love, Marriage & Sex” was inspired by his years of experience in teaching and counseling families, college students, and youth. As he continued to see a need to identify some fundamental, guiding principles by which families and young adults could make Biblically based decisions about their future, the book and the sermon series from which it originated, was created.
In addition to his weekly sermons from the pulpit and through the internet at Westside, Crawford teaches and speaks when available. Currently, he is at work on a learning guide to accompany “Celebration,” as well as his second book.
Crawford lives with his wife, Dr. Freda Crawford, a longtime educator and Bible teacher, in Gainesville. They enjoy spending time with son John and daughter-in-law Tina, daughter Christa and son-in-law Bill Latham, and the family’s four grandchildren.
