Author Crawford Urges Caution as Angels & Demons Movie Launches

When a film or book such as Angels & Demons is released and receives widespread media and public attention, it can create confusion in the minds of both Christians and non-believers.

Especially for children and students, it can be difficult to discern what is fiction from what is positioned as historical or spiritual ‘fact,’ as author Dan Brown has chosen to do in some of his works, including his previous book The DaVinci Code.

For these reasons, we recognize our responsibility to encourage individuals to return to the primary, original source of many of the most cherished principles and truths in the world--the Bible. Only through the study of Scripture, ideally in a directed, small-group setting, can parents equip themselves to guide their children or neighbors through the intellectual quagmire such popular-culture products can create, when they are positioned as factual works, not simply as entertainment.

Dear Pastor Crawford,
My husband William H. Boykin and I have visited several of the services at your church since the first of the year and when we did not attend we watched on the live streaming broadcast. We both have been blessed by your sermons and thought the sermon this morning March 28, 2010 particularly touched us both. You made it all so clear what the resurection really means. We are members of another Baptist Church in Gainesville but have not attended regularly for many, many years. We would like to join Westside Baptist Church and start again. We will be attending Church on Easter Sunday in Jacksonville with our daughter and her husband but would like to join the next Sunday we are in town. Are there some things that we need to do before joining? If you, or one of your staff, would let us know we would appreciate it very much. Again, thank you so much for the very touching and enlightening sermon this morning.

We would also like to comment on the wonderful, and enthusiatic choir at Westside. We love that they sing many of the traditional old Christian hymns that we grew up with and consider classics. The singing is really inspirational and warms our hearts.

We look forward to meeting you personally.
